Tegile Signs Agreement to be Acquired by Western Digital

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Western Digital, Inc, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Tegile Systems.

Western Digital is the world’s largest storage company, holding more than fifty percent of the world’s data. Since the early days of Tegile, Western Digital has been a great partner of ours – first as a supplier, then as an investor, and now as a strategic vendor with a clear goal of building a long-term strategy to deliver complete storage systems. The acquisition of Tegile will accelerate Western Digital’s Data Center Systems (DCS) business by broadening the product portfolio and expanding customer footprint.

As we started building Tegile in early 2010, we were focused on becoming a market leader that could adapt to the rapid advances in storage media. We built an extremely flexible storage management platform that is capable of leveraging different grades of storage media to deliver memory-like performance with the best possible economics. We then added value by offering multi-protocol support, flexible management capabilities, and cloud-based predictive analytics so customers can significantly maximize uptime, consolidate workloads, and simplify storage administration. It is amazing to reflect back on everything we have been able to accomplish.

For us, it has always been about “customer gratification.” Unlike other acquisitions where existing product lines compete with acquired next-generation products, Tegile’s performance storage products will be the foundation for Western Digital’s DCS systems business. With increased investment, we are poised to significantly increase market share while providing the best customer support we possibly can.

I am excited about the future of Tegile as a Western Digital brand and would like to thank our devoted customers, talented employees, and dedicated reseller and ecosystem partners. We couldn’t have done it without them. And moving forward, they will continue to be key to DCS’s long-term strategy of building a multi-billion-dollar systems business. The combination of our market-proven, innovative IntelliFlash product line with Western Digital’s global scale and world-class storage components will provide unprecedented economies of scale to capture a sizable share of the rapidly changing high-performance $24B storage market.
